******************************************************************************** Bainbridge Artist Karyn Meyer-Berthel to Show in Town Hall Gallery The Jericho Arts Council of Bainbridge is pleased to welcome Bainbridge artist Karyn Meyer-Berthel to its Town Hall Gallery on the night of February 27. This one-night-only show is scheduled to coincide with the performance of Bristol Mountain Bluegrass in the Town Hall Theater on the same night. Karyn was trained in education, but went on to get an MFA in scenic art at North Carolina School of the Arts. Scenic art is the painting of sets for theatre, opera and ballet. Much of what she studied there was theatre centered, but she also studied drawing and painting on a small scale. After Karyn graduated and worked in theatre, she had an injury that pulled her away from that kind of work. She drifted into online publishing and currently works in product development for American Artist magazine. Karyn's own art drifted from representational work to abstract when she moved out of theatre into publishing. She has been painting abstractly now for about 3 years and found it to be a very different process - more intuitive than logical. She has used acrylics for 20 years, but has found that working abstractly has given her more freedom to utilize mediums and stretch the paint more than she could when working representationally. The materials become much more part of the process than the scientific work that representational art requires. Karyn's pieces are painted with fluid acrylics, which allow her to refrain from using a brush. She finishes her paintings with a high gloss acrylic medium and varnish. The Town Hall Gallery is located on the second floor of the Town Hall Building on Main Street in Bainbridge. The gallery will open at 7:00 p.m on the night of February 27, and will remain open throughout the evening. Admission to the gallery is free, as always. Come and meet Karyn, see her work, and learn more about the fascinating process she uses to create her abstract paintings.
