Germaine Alcaro "Pixelated” Planter
I was inspired by the game, Minecraft. My kids build these worlds out of blocks, heavily pixelated, and extremely basic and digital. I like the idea that something organic is going to be nestled into this graphic planter to juxtapose the structured vs. natural worlds that are colliding.
Rachelle Brainard "Seaing Perception" Chair
The chair shows that your perception changes based on how you are looking at something, or from where you view it. The front showcases a beach and ocean view on a sunny day. The arms of the chair stained and distressed to mimic a beach pier. Far off in the distance you see a silhouette of a lighthouse on a distant island. Turn the chair around and you find yourself staring at the ocean from that very island. The lighthouse is now front and center with seagulls flying around. For a last play on perception turn the chair over and look at the seat bottom. You now will find that your view is from beneath the ocean water looking up. Schools of fish, a turtle, a young shark, jellyfish, and coral are all around you in this neat underwater view.

Fran Briggs "Visitors" Planter
On my farm, I see nature up close every day. The wildlife, trees & plants make me relax & feel good about country living. Painting is a way to catch that natural beauty. So, I have started painting and decoupaging. Painting is kind of like a silent language. It lets me share my world and hopefully it makes people feel happy.
This planter is about some winged friends in my garden. I have a pair of cardinals visit my feeder everyday. I think they are my visitors from Heaven…

Pat Cristelli "The Fairy Garden" Planter Mayor's Award
Memories of gardening go back to my Mother, and her Mother before her.. My Grandmother lived in NYC in a brick building, but sneak into her backyard and you will have found the secret garden where the fairies lived. My grandmother loved flowers and animals, and at one point she had even befriended a bluejay, which are know to be rather nasty. Fairy Gardens are special places where children play, lovers dream and Grandmothers cherish memories. I hope you will build fun memories in this fairy garden.

Susan Currie "Springtime with Tulips & Daisies" Planter
Its time for planting and tulips and daisies are my favorite flowers. They come in many pretty colors.
Therefore I decided to incorporate them into my planter to make you smile.

Robin Yvonne DeGolier "Flower Power" Planter
Using Golden’s paints, I swirled different hues of green together and “poured” the paints onto the planter panels, then tilted to distribute for a controlled yet random effect. The flower petals were created with very fluid paint in a syringe, dripped onto the panel, then blown on with a straw. Flowers were then outlined using a squeeze bottle. Each panel took 3 days of painting layers and subsequent drying. The architecture of the planter influenced the techniques and design choices. The sleek lines of the planter called for the painting to be flowers that are wild and uncontrolled!

Christine Giuliano "Enchanted Race" Chair Award of Excellence
It's the gnomes versus the fairies in their annual canoe race. Enter the enchanted forest just over the troll bridge. View a day of races and merriment. Who will be the winner? Only the wise old tree knows.

Rachel Hares "Magical Mykiss" Planter
Inspiration for "Magical Mykiss" comes from many anglers in the area catching beautiful Trout. The fish are gorgeous, with many stunning colors and patterns. These magical fish sometimes look bland, but if you catch the light just right, they can reflect rainbows of color. My piece shows these rainbows of color, that you just might see, if you’re lucky.

Katie Kellogg-Campos "Woodland Silhouettes" Chair Award of Excellence
Katie has based her vision on being a kid and growing up in Upstate NY where wildlife is abundant and beautiful. She and her husband, Hugo, are also avid campers and enjoy the serenity of the woods and the quiet time to enjoy nature.
She used classic cameo inspired inserts to highlight the deer while keeping the main focus on family throughout her painting.

Lori Kellogg "Three Toes is All It Takes" Planter
Lori's inspiration this year is a whimsical view of our world and taking the time to look up, you may be surprised with what you see! Technique is whimsy with folk art worked in through the leaves, subject matter, and colors.

Carol Lernihan " Endurance" Planter
As a self-taught artist, I had difficulty starting work on the planter primed in white. When I darkened the colors and cut a stencil for the paddles, I was in gear. I had read a lot about the history of the regatta and decided to add the timeline to my "start" and "finish" lines and then molded my canoes to add more depth. I left off any race numbers as the winning bidder may want to add their number choice.

Ellen Lockhart "Out the Window" Planter
I have designed for many years in Horticulture and Art, this project combines both of my life passions. It brings out the artistic form found in our surroundings , both the architecture of old and our beautiful countryside. My inspiration for this planter goes back to memories from long ago, when the window grates on my house were open to the air. The birds would build nests in them. We would watch the eggs hatch and young birds grow big enough to fly away. Each Spring we’d enjoy the birds, with the acres of land blooming beyond. It was sweet to enjoy this moment in time, once again.

Samantha Spalholz-Olbrys "Evolution" Planter
As humans we are constantly growing and evolving into our next life chapters. Originally painting this planter, I imagined perfection and after a few days of trying to obtain this concept of perfection, I gave up on its constraints. By letting go, I allowed myself to have fun creating it. Eventually, my true impressionistic painting technique surfaced. This act of freedom from the structured and conceptual perfection was the unique finalizing touch of my planter. I find the planter symbolic to my current life chapter. Letting go of control and trying to obtain perfection is boring and exhausting. I’m happily in the midst of my flaws and creativity. Through this self evolution, I embrace life however it may come, resulting in my current state of happiness.
I also incorporated bees because they are very symbolic. They are incredibly dedicated and diligent little creatures. They have an execution point, and while they are in the center of production they also create beauty and colors within their natural environment. Like bees, artists are rare, and through their hard work, we bring forth color and beauty for all to enjoy.

Jessica Tefft "A Dribble of Imagination" Chair Best in Show
Imagination and creativity are powerful things. Most people tend to lose or forget that they have both of these as they get older. But these are things we should not let go, because they are part of what makes life worth living. So, let your imagination wander as you look for all the hidden aspects of this piece. Some things you may imagine or see that others may not, but that doesn’t mean they are not there. And maybe, when you look away and you see the world around you, you will still continue to look for all the hidden beautiful things.

Pat Cristelli "Blooming Art Planter" Planter Award of Excellence
Americana is farming, sewing and laughter....so turn that into....gardening, quilting and fun. Gardening nourishes us, quilts keep us warm and laughter renews our hope and energies which lead us to building a better tomorrow. As we move in our high tech worlds and fast pace lives, my planter will hopefully slow life down and remind us of the simpler things in life. And even if our thumbs aren't green, we can fill this planter with ice and beverages and gather friends and family and enjoy the world around us!

Jessica Tefft "All A-Buzz" Planter
Bees are a very important part of the life cycle and helping to provide us with tasty food and beautiful flowers to enjoy. As I have a few hives of my own, I decided to incorporate bees into this piece to show how beautiful these little creatures are. Hopefully by seeing this piece you can see a little bit of the beauty that is the Honey Bee, and it will inspire you to do your part in helping to keep them thriving. Look for the Queen, she is different from all the rest, as well as a few drones (the “fat” males), and of course the workers (females that do all the work running the hive).

Jill Hawthorne/Toms River High School "Paradise Box" Planter
I believe in the beauty of nature. My happy place is hearing the peacefulness of the ocean waves and the feeling I get that flowers possess a unique structure and capability to enhance the meaning and intensity of
an overall composition. In celebration of spring this planter is designed to embrace the beauty of both.
