Randall & Aceleinn Brainard “Five Little Ducklings” Child chair #1
On my children's chair we would do the song “5 Little Ducks”. On the front part we will have 4 hills with 4 out of 5 of the ducklings; there will be a sky with clouds as well. On the seat there will be a pond with the mother duck with one of the ducklings waiting for the other ducks to come back. The arms will be green representing bushes. We will also be painting a pond with a tree on the back along with all 5 ducklings and the mother duck, representative of all the babies being back with the mama duck.
Rachelle Brainard “Better Together” Adult chair #2
My idea for this year’s chair stems from the world's experience facing Covid over the last year. Every place you go people say we are in this together - you are not alone. Then I heard We're Better Together, a song by Jack Johnson.

Katy Keen “Age of Aquarius” Adult chair #3
I chose "Age of Aquarius" as it is a Euphoric song of Hope and Change. Something I believe we all need in these Crazy times.

Rachel Hares “Grateful” Adult chair #4
I am a huge music fan and have always drawn inspiration from music for my paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and everything else I am creating. My favorite band, The Grateful Dead always gets creative juices flowing. It only seemed fitting to pay homage to some of my favorite songs, "Brokedown Palace" and "Eyes of the World." The lyric "Listen to the River Sing Sweet Songs to Rock my Soul," inspired the winding river on the front of the chair. The River is ever changing and always flowing, bringing peace and tranquility, just like art.

Russell Luscomb “FRANKENSTEIN 2021” Adult chair #5
This chair is an unholy concoction of Edgar Winter's 1970 Classic
Frankenstein (INSTRUMENTAL). A large dose of 60's black and white
horror movies and a heaping helping of COVID 19 thrown in to seal the
deal! A dark and twisted tale manifests in front of you in four panels.
#1 The front of the chair - Depicts a modern day Frankenstein attempting
to prevent an animal carrying the COVID 19 virus from escaping its homeland.
#2 The sides of the chair -Are a foul brew of COVID Viruses festering out
of control !
#3 Top of the back - Time doesn't heal all wounds , Some times the
pandemic conquers all !
#4 Bottom of back. - Alone ,broken and ill himself, Frankenstein throws
up his hands in utter despair to the impending Apocalypse......THE END

Diana McShane “She's a Rainbow” Adult chair #7
People's Choice award -1st place
I've been painting with acrylics since high school, and in recent years, I've focused on abstract art and acrylic pouring. I love the unpredictability and vibrancy of this art form. My work is inspired by psychedelic music and the spirited colors of nature. The artists who inspire me most like Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, and Hilma af Klint. use lots of the colors with which I identify. The song I've chosen to represent on the Paddle Chair is "She's a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones. I've chosen it because I love color, and rainbows are such magical natural phenomena. When my husband and I got married, we decided to have our wedding party dressed in colors of the rainbow and they walked down the aisle to this song. It will always remind me of that beautiful special day, surrounded by friends and family, on a breathtaking vineyard in upstate New York.
Jessica Tefft “Forever Country” Adult chair #8
Mayor's award
"Forever country” is a medley of 3 of the most beloved Country songs of all time: "On the Road Again", "Take Me Home Country Roads", and "I Will Always Love You". It is a song that when it first came out a couple years ago, instantly took me back to my childhood and listening to the radio in my room, and singing with my parents around the bonfire. So, I decided to incorporate as many references to those songs I remember from growing up, and have them along the "Country Road" that winds up the hill on the front, and down into town again on the back. Maybe some of the references will take you back as well.
Jess added these other references:
“Strawberry Wine” (bottle under tree)
“Check Yes or No” (note under tree)
“Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree” (ribbon on tree)
“Life's a Dance You Learn as You go” (Redwing singing on telephone pole)
“I Break for Brunettes” (bumper sticker on Ford)
“I Tip my Hat to the Keeper of the Stars” (music in stars on right leg)
“Meet in the Middle” (Fence posts & pine tree in yard at house)
“John Deere Green” (water tower)
“Good Directions” (Miss Bell's Shop w/cake sign& farm stand sign)
“Dumas Walker” (store w/burger and side for $5)
“Chasin the Neon Rainbow” (neon rainbow in window)
“It's 5o'clock Somewhere” (neon sign in window)
“Watermelon Crawl” (banner between buildings)
Any song referencing: pick up trucks, white churches, trains, back roads, starry skies, honky tonks, pretty girls, farms, home, front porches, fishing, small towns, sunrises & sunsets !

Alexis Van Buren “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” Adult chair #9
My name is Alexis, 24, owner of Baristacrats Coffee Bar in Afton NY. I was stoked when I heard that the theme was “a song” this year. I think everyone can say that they LOVE music! Music can help heal us and bring us together in times of struggle. This past year has been an uphill battle for most of us, to say the least. I wanted to choose a song that has always made me happy. I wanted to choose a song that brought me into another “world” even for just a few short minutes. What better song than “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by The Beatles. What is your escape song?

Ellen Lockhart “Fireflies” Child chair #10
This project brings back to mind an event that happens in mid-June in our beautiful countryside. My inspiration for this chair is of my granddaughter singing out back to the fireflies glowing all around her. A memory from not so long ago and precious in my heart.

Carol Lernihan “Moon River” Adult chair #11
Last year the theme for the Regatta Row was the sun. With it being a song this year, I immediately thought "Moon River" as a good contrast to the suns. I can envision lots of blues and white for the moon and stars, perhaps some stained glass and Rainbow's End for the finish line and lots of canoes on the river.

Fran Briggs “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere” Adult chair #12
DaVinci award - most innovative artist
The phrase was first found in the 1920s. It was designed by an east coast society woman to fill in time between afternoon tea and evening activities: 5 pm cocktail hour was designated.
Then came the saying “why wait till 5 o’ clock-it’s 5 o’clock somewhere in the world”.
In 2003 Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett recorded the song. The song was written by Jim Brown and Don Rollins.
I have added cup holders to hold your cocktails.
What inspired me to do this song was, with the world we have had to deal with this past year, we can always know it’s 5 o’clock somewhere and we all live in that same world.

"I'm going up to the country, baby don't you wanna go?” When I go upstate to the country for peace and serenity, this is what I envision. The rolling hills, the comfort of the back roads, the forgotten treasures and the beauty of the simple greenery.

Pat Cristelli “It's a Wonderful World” Adult chair #14
Louis Armstrong recorded the song in 1967. It was felt that Armstrong's ability to bring people of different races together made him the perfect artist to sing this song. In these difficult days we still need to come together. My chair shows us the simple things that make life wonderful. Offering us the opportunity to look around us and enjoy the wonders of the world. Rainbows embrace all colors just as we should embrace all people. Come sit down, slow down and look around and enjoy your wonderful life.

Sarah Green “Cheeseburger in Paradise at Bob's Diner” Adult chair #15
Best in Show
The subject matter that excites Sarah most is portraiture, both of people and animals. (However, after creating this design proposal, she is pondering that perhaps one can create a portrait of food???) She seeks to illicit a connection and some kind of an emotional response between the subject in the portraits she creates and the viewer. The subject Sarah decided on, given this year's theme, is “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, featuring Jimmy Buffet's famously appetizing song and the popular diner in Bainbridge!

Cassie Harlec “Rainbow” Child chair #16
The song that I chose for design of my chair is by Kacey Musgraves. It tells how during difficult times you should not give up because even when things look bad, there will always be good things to give you happiness if you just look up. On the back of the chair I will display a little girl dancing in the rain. She will be surrounded by woods and nature as well as animals. In the sky will be a large rainbow with the sun, popping thru the clouds to symbolize the hope and happiness still in a dark world. On both armrests will be sunflowers painted with an addition of wood burning designs to create flow. The lower legs panels will be painted using black and white for contrast with images of things representative of negative things from 2020. Lastly, the seat will be stained to enhance the natural beauty of the wood grain itself.
Elise Craver “Mary Had a Little Lamb” Child chair #17
Award of Excellence
Inspiration comes from many sources, especially music. Even a timeless nursery rhyme written long ago, published in 1830, then put to a simple melody created my vision for the ADK child's chair. I've always had a soft spot for "Mary had a Little Lamb", since my first name is Mary ,[ people know me by my middle name Elise]. Though I never had a lamb , I do have a four year old granddaughter who loves books and being sung to. It's a good thing her mommy has a nice voice ,her meme doesn't.
I'm not sure kids read the "Golden Books" so many of us grew up with, but it is nice to make this young generation aware of "Mother Goose" nursery rhymes. So I have depicted a scene from "Mary had a little Lamb" telling her little lamb to go back to the barn. Rolling hills, tulips and a robin create a peaceful image of a very special child's tale.

Christine Giuliano “Music=Emotion” Adult chair #18
Best Creative Concept award
People's Choice award - 2nd place
Music evokes emotion and memories. It can inspire and it can connect you to emotions that words can't say. It was very hard to pick one song to represent or one artist because I have a wide taste in music, but one band kept coming to mind: Led Zeppelin. So much of their music has spoken to me through the years and they remain one of my favorites. The songs in my piece are "All of my Love", " Ramble on", "No Quarter”, "Stairway to Heaven", "Over the Hills & Faraway" and "Going to California". The rainbow color throughout the chair represents the vibration of music.

Caitlyn Diamond “Plant a Watermelon on my Grave” Adult chair #19
Having grown up in Bainbridge, I dedicated a lot of my spare time to the arts and volunteered frequently at the Town Hall Theater. One of my favorite bands that also frequents this venue is the Susquehanna String Band. I’ve known all the band members since I was about three years old because they are all good friends of my family. As an elementary student, I remember John, Danny, and Rick performing as guest musicians and getting all of the kids in the audience to sing along to some ridiculously goofy songs. Since this year’s theme was “Song”, I thought to myself, what better way to honor such a well-known band in our little town? This will be the second chair I’ve painted for the Regatta Row and I absolutely love being able to artistically highlight some of my favorite things about small town life.

Makenzie Ingraham “Sunny” Adult chair #21
My chair, titled Sunny, depicts my interpretation of the song “Sunny” by Boney M. This song never fails to cheer me up and get me through these stressful COVID times. I incorporated a wispy-like scene of sun shining upon a body of water and mountains with bright, uplifting colors. I also decided to decorate arms with some fish to add to the lively scene. I know many couldn’t end up traveling because COVID so why not bring some beautiful scenery to others through art!
